Change in Action! Since being appointed in January 2019 to the Helena City Council, I have been making my time count in giving back to our City. From bringing the proposal to fully fund a full time SRO at Helena Elementary to working on making pedestrians safer on our streets. In life I have always been of the belief that there are three types of people... those who talk about getting things done, those that watch others get things done, and those who get things done. I pride myself on being not only a forward thinker but having the ability to execute the plan at hand.
My drive and vision for Helena since I took Office last year includes: 1. Safety within Helena 2. Growth that is forward thinking in the decisions that are made while continuing to advocate improvements in infrastructure 3. Ambassador of Helena that markets the City in a way that we all should be proud of as residents
Drive and vision is key to have but it is critical to back them up with actions like I have done for the past year. 1. Improved safety in Helena with proposals including the new full time SRO at the Elementary School, new safety railing at the Caboose, and the installation of Rectangular Flashing Beacon lights at all major crosswalks for pedestrians. 2. Became actively involved in both the Committee of Transportation, Public Safety and Communication along with the Committee on Community and Economic Development. Both of these committees are with the Alabama League of Municipalities where I am being the voice for Helena residents. 3. Improved marketing of Helena by proposing and having approved the development of a new City website to bring our website up to times and be something we can all be proud of. Being the Vice Chairman of the Helena Beautification Board I am hands on in getting dirty to make Helena beautiful.
I graciously and humbly ask you for your support and vote on August 25th to continue serving you and the City of Helena.
CHANGES IN ACTION PAST PROPOSALS
SRO at Helena Elementary 06.24.19
Currently all four of the Helena Schools have a SRO assigned to them, but the position at the Elementary School is not a dedicated resources. The purpose of this proposal is to request funding to have all of the schools have a dedicated SRO.
Helena has four major pedestrian crosswalks that have high pedestrian traffic. From low visibility of pedestrians attempting to cross roadways to motorist yielding rates; for the safety of our citizens, effective safety measures that will alert both drivers and pedestrians should be implemented to keep everyone safe.
The city’s website should be a key focal point for marketing the city and happenings around town along with key information that is easy to navigate for our citizens and visitors alike. Currently, the city has one main website and four departmental website.
The Caboose in Old Town has long been a focal point and landmark within the city for residents, visitors, and train enthusiast. In recent years, a new ramp and gazebo were added to provide additional seating and safety at this site. Completion of this proposed effort will allow for the beauty to last for years and provide additional safety.
